John Lewis, an American politician, and a civil rights activist dedicated his life to upholding justice, equality and non-violence. He served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District from 1987 to 2020. He also remained chairman of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee for three years.
Lewis, one of the “Big Six” who organized the 1963 “March on Washington,” marched arm-in-arm with Martin Luther King Jr., and got arrested on multiple accounts for the cause. He also led the march, which was halted by the police and went down in history as ‘Bl**dy Sunday.’ Unfortunately, he passed away in 2020, leaving behind a rich legacy.
