It’s not every day we come across such a photo. Located in Kyiv, these two Orthodox Christian women have embraced the cold in the name of faith in the bone-chilling waters of the Dnipro River. Although often linked with religious rituals, this practice is also known as ice swimming and is believed by some to have health benefits like improved circulation and boosted immune responses.
However, it’s not for the faint-hearted and requires careful preparation and recovery. Ideally, after an icy swim, one should gradually warm up to avoid shock to the system. Experts recommend gentle exercises to get the blood flowing, followed by warm—not hot—showers. It’s also important to monitor for any signs of hypothermia.
