FROM PRANKSTER HUGS TO TRAVOLTA KISSES AND THE TIME WILL SMITH SLAPPED HIS PEER, THESE RED CARPET MOMENTS ARE UNFORGETTABLE

Amy Schumer Talks Tampons – Emmys, 2016

Wonder why Giuliana Rancic features so prevalently in this story? Well, that’s because she is one of E! Network’s most experienced and prominent red carpet reporters. She’s so famous for the job she even had a reality show called “Giuliana & Bill,” featuring her and her husband, Bill Rancic.

Luckily this one isn’t about her, although she still features. Instead, this is about Amy Schumer, another repeat offender in this story who was particularly witty at the 2016 Emmy Awards. During her interview, Rancic asked Schumer who she was wearing, and Schumer shot back in a wink, answering, “An OB Tampon.” We think Schumer may have missed the mark there.

Amy Schumer Face-Plants – Time 100 Gala, 2015

Amy Schumer is quite the character. Never one afraid to make a fool of herself, she often plays self-deprecating characters. Although that wasn’t the case at the Time 100 gala in 2015, she somehow still managed to achieve that feat in front of super couple Kanye and Kim Kardashian West.

Like Vitalii Sediuk, Schumer fell in front of the couple on the red carpet, which she admits she did deliberately, hoping to steal some of the couple’s thunder, the way, she says, they often do to other celebrities. At work, she delivered another scene-stealing performance in her 2022 series called “Life After Beth.”

John Travolta Kisses Scarlett Johansson – Oscars, 2015

It doesn’t get any more glamorous than at the Oscars for red carpet events. Everyone wants to look good and take the red carpet photo sessions seriously. Like Scarlett Johansson in this photo, who is the very picture of camera-ready seriousness at the 2015 Oscars as the media snaps away at her.

She was, in fact, so focused on the photographers that she never noticed the legendary John Travolta sneaking up behind her to plant a kiss on her cheek. She didn’t even flinch, and the photographer captured some Oscar gold. Johansson finally got her own Marvel project with the 2021 film “Black Widow.”

Fan Cuffs Herself to Hugh Grant – Music and Lyrics Premiere, 2007

Where do we start with this one? Some say this was a Dutch prank show host; others refer to her as a deranged fan. But Cielke Sijben got her 15 minutes of fame at the premiere of the film “Music and Lyrics” in 2007 when she handcuffed herself to its star Hugh Grant.

Grant was in the middle of giving interviews to the press and remained professional, continuing to speak while handcuffed. Eventually, the police and fire department came, although no one pressed charges. Reportedly Sijben spent two hours in jail. As for Grant, he’s busy as ever and starred in the 2022 film “Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre.”

Stella McCartney Almost Takes Down Rihanna’s Skirt – Met Gala, 2014

While her father is a legend in the music world, Stella McCartney has blazed a trail in a different industry. She is a British fashion icon who has collaborated with the likes of Adidas and Disney, among others. Despite her standing, she can still put her foot in it and did that literally at the Met Gala in 2014.

At least, she put her foot on it. ‘It’ being Rihana’s white skirt, that is. The music mogul seemed to take it very well, although she was probably plotting her claim to a Stella McCartney original while hoping the skirt rips. Either way, everything worked out swimmingly.

Selena Gomez’s Blue Streaks – Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party, 2007

In 2007, Selena Gomez was primarily renowned for acting and being a Disney star on the show “Wizards of Waverley Place.” She also considered herself a fashion icon and flexed her fashion muscles at the 2007 Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party with a blue streak in her hair.

At the time, she described her style choice as edgy, saying she wanted to add something a little extra to her hairdo. In 2021, using hindsight and a little retrospect, Gomez admitted that she wasn’t very cool back then; at least she told her younger self that when posting a clip of this interview on TikTok.

Mayim Bialik Defends Her Intelligence – SAG Awards, 2014

Sometimes actors go to great lengths to play characters. Take guys like Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, who had to learn complex science for their roles in “Big Bang Theory.” Mayim Bialik, though, was one person from that show who didn’t have to do that. She played Amy Farah Fowler, a neuroscientist on the show.

It turns out that Bialik is a qualified neuroscientist herself and stated this during an interview at the SAG Awards in 2014. The interviewer wondered if she could solve the calculus used on the show. She bluntly pointed out her qualification, but in a way that suggested the interviewer should have known this.

Björk Wears a Swan Dress – Oscars, 2001

Music icon Björk is quite an eccentric personality. She has built a back catalog that can be best described as eclectic throughout her career, mixing in sounds that include electronic, pop, jazz, experimental, trip-hop, alternative, classical, and avant-garde music. Hence she is also bound to have an over-the-top dress sense.

She showed this at the 2001 Oscars, wearing a swan dress on the red carpet. That wasn’t all either. She also carried around six ostrich eggs, which she dropped all over while walking. She says she did this deliberately and was quite amused by security guards constantly picking them up and giving them back to her.

Sacha Baron Cohen Dumps Ashes on Ryan Seacrest – Oscars, 2012

Sacha Baron Cohen has thrived by creating and playing eccentric roles that reveal the comedic sides of cultures and subcultures. He did just that with Admiral General Aladeen for the film “The Dictator.” He was so bent on showcasing the character that he arrived as him at the 2012 Oscars.

He was also carrying an earn he claimed held the ashes of late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il. He proceeded to spill said ashes all over the red carpet and even got a bunch of the stuff on red carpet interviewer Ryan Seacrest. Seacrest stayed professional and continued conducting interviews with the ash on him.

Jason Segel Gets Swept Up – Oscars, 2012

It may seem like it, but the red carpet isn’t a magical item that keeps itself clean. It requires a team of men to maintain it. Hence, on the evening that Sacha Baron Cohen pulled his little dictator ash stunt, a group of cleaners came out to clean up the mess.

Cleaners were looking like ghostbusters with vacuum cleaners on their backs. One actor who saw the funny side of it all was “How I Met Your Mother” actor Jason Segel. He was tiptoeing around the cleaners as if his life depended on it, or at least like he didn’t want to join the ash inside the hoovers.

This Greeting Between Reese Witherspoon and Felicity Jones – Oscars, 2015

Secret handshakes used to be a part of the trade for secret agents and long-running military men. But these days, everyone and their uncle has one. Just look at soccer players like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who have extensive handshakes that look like they need quite a bit of practice to master.

Reese Witherspoon and Felicity Jones did something far less complex at the 2015 Oscars when they crossed paths on the red carpet. A simple grab of one another’s wrists, and you knew that was a lot more than just professional courtesy and mutual respect between them. In 2018 Jones even cited Witherspoon as her inspiration.

Giuliana Rancic Asks Issa Rae About Her Memoir – Golden Globes, 2018

The most important thing a reporter on the red carpet needs to do is be prepared. Giuliana Rancic, a veteran of the red carpet for E!, should know this better than anyone. But alas, she managed to miss the mark when interviewing actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.

During the interview, Rancic asked Rae what she would call her memoir. Rae got a little awkward because she had already released a memoir, which just so happened to be a bestseller called “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl.” Rancic seemed like she was hardly expecting to run into Rae on the carpet.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s PDA – Billboard Music Awards, 2021

Megan Fox has built her career around playing the sultry female lead in films like “Transformers” and “Jennifer’s Body.” While they paid the bills and gave her a platform to become a young man’s dream girl, they also earned her a few invitations to awards ceremonies, albeit some of them were for Razzies.

But her time at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards was thanks to the man Machine Gun Kelly. On the night, Kelly won the awards for Top Rock Album and Top Rock Artist, but he saved his most iconic moment for the red carpet when he and Fox engaged in some PDA for the photographers.

Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac’s Flirting – Venice International Film Festival, 2021

Co-stars in 2021’s drama series “Scenes From A Marriage,” Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain played a contemporary couple. They showed great chemistry, which is partly why the show has an 81% rating on Rotten Tomato. But before its release to the public, it showed at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021.

At this festival, Isaac and Chastain decided to show off their chemistry before anyone had seen the film. The move made everyone think they were a real couple even though both were married to other people. However, the truth is that they go way back to their days studying at Julliard together.

Kim Kardashian Gets Flour Bombed – “True Reflection” Fragrance Launch, 2012

Kim Kardashian is loved by girls worldwide thanks to her status as a style icon, influencer, and range of makeup and skincare products. But not everyone is infatuated with the Kim K brand. She has received particular abuse from animal rights activists.

This came to a boil when Kim, whose show, “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” came to an end in 2021, attended her “True Reflection” Fragrance Launch in 2012. On her way to the launch, she was pelted with flour while shouting what sounded like “lousy fur hag!” at Kim. Since then, she has started starring in a new show called “The Kardashians” in 2022.

Debra Messing Drags E! While Being Interviewed By E! – Golden Globes, 2018

Some celebrities just love a platform. That is what the red carpet is since it allows them to show off their causes, voice their opinions, and maybe even offend a few people, all while looking their glamorous best. One of those people who love a platform is Debra Messing.

The former “Will & Grace” star scored a double burn during an interview she was conducting at the 2018 Golden Globe. The interview took place around the same time news broke that E! had been paying its male staff twice as much as their female ones, and Messing brought this up with female E! reporter Giuliana Rancic, and it got awkward.

Jennifer Lawrence Trips – Oscars, 2014

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most eccentric personalities in Hollywood. Renowned for her bubbly personality and over-the-top demeanor, she is always either doing something eyecatching or having something eye-catching happen to her. This one is from the latter category and isn’t even the first time this has happened to her.

In 2013 she tripped on her up the stairs to accept her Oscar for best actress. It was an iconic moment etched in the memory of everyone who noticed it. She tried to replicate it again the following year, only this time on the red carpet. Lawrence last starred in the 2021 film “Don’t Look Up.”

Jim Carrey Says Nothing Is Real – Harper’s Bazaar ICONS Party, 2017

Jim Carrey remains one of the most famous and iconic comedic actors in the industry. He has also played some pretty strange characters in films like “The Mask,” “Ace Ventura,” “Bruce Almighty,” and 2022’s “Sonic The Hedgehog 2.” You’d have to admit that he has to be pretty eccentric in person to play these types of characters.

He is also a pretty philosophical person and showed this when he arrived at the Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS party in 2017. First, he claimed that he was only there to be at the most meaningless thing he could attend. Then he went even further, saying that nothing, not even he, is real.

Jason Derulo’s Stair Conspiracy – Cannes Film Festival, 2011

There once was a meme doing the rounds of Jason Derulo falling down the stairs at the Met Gala. The only problem is that the person in the meme isn’t Jason Derulo. Hell, the event is actually the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. The man falling over is someone who tried to crash the film festival.

It also caused plenty of admin in Derulo’s life, and he once said in an interview with Radio.com that he had to reassure his 93-year-old grandmother that he didn’t fall down the stairs at the Met Gala. He had to reiterate this, tweeting about it in 2019 after the meme resurfaced again.

Nancy O’Dell Crosses a Line with Taylor Swift – Grammys, 2015

There are plenty of ways to tell a woman that she looks good. But saying that she’s going to pick up many guys is not one. Just ask ET’s Nancy O’Dell, who once told Taylor Swift just that during an interview at the 2015 Grammy Award; something the country musician turned pop star didn’t take it lightly.

She threw O’Dell a death stare and swiftly replied, saying she wasn’t walking away with any men that night, and she duly obliged. Swift, of course, has a reputation for her short relationships and for how they have inspired her music and some of the best hits.

Kanye West’s Bottle – VMAs, 2009

Kanye West is all about living that high life, and it doesn’t get higher than getting drunk at the MTV Video Music Awards. This is what he claims he did when he showed up on the red carpet with a bottle of Hennessy. He wasn’t even using glass and was swigging straight from the bottle.

This was in 2009 and proved to be just the start of some very eccentric behavior by the musician and business owner. Of course, his life has changed a lot since then. He is now a billionaire and has since also gotten divorced from his wife, Kim Kardashian.

Elsa Hosk’s Earring – Venice Film Festival, 2019

Elsa Hosk is a model who made waves as Victoria’s Secret Angel and worked on campaigns for Dior Dolce & Gabbana, Ungaro, H&M, and Guess, among others. She has also dabbled in acting, and this career nuance has at least gotten her invited to the Venice Film Festival.

Being the striking beauty that she is, she had to wear something stunning, and she duly obliged with a dress that had a gold skirt with a high slit. This was all good when she was walking, but when she had to pick up her earring that fell out, she struggled to keep herself covered; the moment was both honest and funny.

Terrence Howard’s Philosophy Class – Emmys, 2019

Sometimes people can just get caught up in their words. Take Terrence Howard at the 2019 Emmy Award. The leading man for the hit show Empire let loose with some pretty philosophical words, coming across just fine until he got a little lost with what he was saying.

Howard, an Oscar nominee for his role in the film ”Hustle & Flow” waxed lyrical about the universe and emotions and how everything is essentially waves. He then explained how waves are curved before abruptly questioning where “the straight lines come from to make the platonic solids?” We’re sure he knows what he meant. Everyone else doesn’t.

Joan Rivers Accosts Nicole Kidman Over Her Dress – Oscars, 1997

The late Joan Rivers was a renowned Comedian and TV host. She was also pretty controversial and wasn’t afraid to direct thorny questions to celebrities she felt had made bad choices. One such incident happened at the Oscars in 1997, and needless to say, she just wouldn’t let it slide.

She took exception to Nicole Kidman wearing a green dress. She shouted at Kidman, who passed her by, and asked why she was wearing such an ugly dress. Kidman ignored her, and, not satisfied with the outcome; Rivers shouted that she hated the color and that it would make her throw up. Thankfully she didn’t.

Lil Uzi Vert Has a Strained Convo With Giuliana Rancic – Grammys, 2018

One of the most challenging things for a journalist is to interview a nonresponsive celebrity. Interviewers require their subjects to be colorful and lively to dovetail their answers, so when someone is just answering questions with no effort, an interviewer can struggle with the interview.

A fine example of this is when Giuliana Rancic stopped Lil Uzi for a chat at the 2018 Grammys. She opened up with a bit of small talk, asking him how he was feeling, to which he replied, “I’m feeling normal.” A fair answer, but Rancic probably ran out of things to say very quickly.

Zac Efron Drops a Condom – ”The Lorax” Premiere, 2012

Now let’s be fair here. Zac Efron is probably one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs and has been since his teen days in “High School Musical.” So you can bet everything on the fact that he comes prepared for an onslaught of female attention and perhaps even the opportunity to take someone home.

By prepared, we mean with protection, i.e., condoms, and he proved how ready he is when he dropped a rubber on the ground at the premiere of “The Lorax.” The only downside about this is that it was a bit inappropriate for a children’s film showing, but hey, he was just being safe.

Giuliana Rancic Tells Emilia Clarke “You Can Go” – Emmys, 2016

For someone who is a veteran of working the red carpet, Giuliana Rancic has appeared in the story an awful lot for some embarrassing moments. Sure, working on a live red carpet event can be daunting and will never go down perfectly, but some of the boundaries she has crossed are criminally bad.

Like the time she told Emilia Clarke, a TV queen at the time thanks to “Game of Thrones,” that she could go. It wasn’t so much the words, but the dismissive way Rancic used them and the fact that she persisted with telling her to go after Clarke didn’t move. All because she spotted Heidi Klum.

Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson Have a Mother-Daughter Moment – Oscars, 2015

It’s very seldom, extremely seldom, that a child has as much success in the acting industry as their parent. That is especially the case when a said parent is a legend like Malanie Griffith. But Dakota Johnson has done an excellent job of making a name for herself despite her mother’s profile.

This was all thanks to her role in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which, ironically, her mother never saw and didn’t want to see. The question came up again on the Oscars 2015 red carpet, with Griffith still adamant she didn’t want to see it. Johnson eventually snapped at her mom, saying, “Alright! You don’t have to see it!”

Will Smith Slaps “Prankster” – Men in Black 3 Premiere, 2012

At a time when Will Smith has been making headlines for slapping someone, we provide a reminder that it was not the first time he has done this. In fact, at the 2012 premiere of Men In Black 3, he slapped another person on the red carpet, although this one flew under the radar.

That could be because it wasn’t a celebrity he slapped. Instead, it was the prankster Vitalii Sediuk, who snuck onto the red carpet and hugged Smith. he even tried to plant a kiss on the Oscar winner, who subsequently placed a slap on him. People were probably glad Smith did this.

Angelina Jolie Kisses Her Brother – Oscars, 2000

Much has changed since Angelina Jolie had her first Oscar nomination in 2000. She became one of Hollywood’s most prominent stars and is regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful women. She has surpassed her brother, James Haven, in every way imaginable. Things were different in 2000.

Sure, she won an Oscar, but she was also more daring back then and brought her brother as her plus one. It didn’t stop there either, and she sent the tabloids into a meltdown by kissing him on the red carpet. Maybe the incident was overblown; Jolie seemed to say as much in an interview four years later.

Jenna Bush Asks Pharrell about “Hidden Fences” – Oscars, 2017

Be prepared; that is all that is expected of a reporter when they are working the red carpet. They need to know what they’re talking about to whom and to get those acts in order. But most importantly, try not to mix the movie titles up. Jenna Bush didn’t heed these simple guidelines when interviewing Pharrell Williams.

He was at the 2017 Oscars as the producer of the film “Hidden Figures.” But when Bush was interviewing him, she questioned him about a movie called Hidden Fences. It appears that Bush mixed this film title with another, a predominantly black starring film called “Fences.” She apologized the next day.

Will Arnett Avoids Question About Amy Poehler – Emmys, 2013

Will Arnette is a versatile actor who has had many roles, including his breakthrough role in the series “Arrested Development.” He is also the voice of Lego Batman and is renowned for his voice work. He is also known for his comic timing and used this to good effect on the Emmy red carpet in 2013.

That was after the interviewer asked him how he and his wife prepared for the event. At the time, he and Amy Poehler had separated, and he told the interviewer his significant other didn’t exist. He followed this up by saying that he was looking forward to re-watching this on YouTube.

Jerry Seinfeld Turns Down Kesha’s Hug – 2017

At any red carpet event, it’s not uncommon for a variety of celebrities to get caught up in happy moments and share hugs and handshakes. That is, except for Jerry Seinfeld, Who doesn’t appear to share this sentiment. This was evident in a video from the David Lynch Foundation’s National Night of Laughter and Song in 2017.

While being interviewed by Kesha on the Red Carpet, he denied her a hug three times. Although Seinfeld later explained that he doesn’t do hugs, especially not with strangers, this went viral. It was the first time he had met Kesha, so it was perfectly understandable.

America Ferrera Is Violated By “Prankster” – 2014 Cannes Film Festival

Of all the times prankster Vitalii Sediuk chose to strike, this was not the ideal situation for it. Besides the fact that it was one of his most heinous pranks yet: putting his head under the dress of “Ulgy Betty” and “Superstore” star America Ferrera, he also chose to do it when the chips were stacked against him.

Because between him and her was ”Game of Thrones” star Kit Harrington and another guy in a Viking helmet. That’s not to mention the two colossal security staff close by that did most of the heavy lifting. Harrington looked appalled, while Ferrera described the incident as a crazy dream.

Isaac Mizrahi Gropes Scarlett Johansson’s Breast – Golden Globes, 2006

We’re not sure what Isaac Mizrahi was thinking, but one boundary he should have set for himself from this incident was to keep his hands to himself. He is also pretty lucky this incident happened before Scarlett Johansson was an Avenger; she may have used her jiu-jitsu training on him.

This incident happened at the Golden Globe Awards in 2006. Mizrahi was interviewing Johansson about her dress, and when she told him it had built-in support, he decided to test for himself by touching her breast. It may have been kneejerk, but it was also inappropriate, and he should have known better.
