FRANK-WALTER STEINMEIER AND ELKE BÜDENBENDER – 26 YEARS
Frank-Walter Steinmeier has been the twelfth President of the Federal Republic of Germany since 2017. During his law studies, the later SPD politician finally met his wife Elke, whom he married in December 1995. While Steinmeier had a steep career in politics as head of the Federal Chancellery, Federal Foreign Minister and Deputy Federal Chancellor, his wife worked successfully as an administrative judge.
Despite a successful career and a tight schedule, the couple had a daughter in 1996. Steinmeier proved in 2010 that the two were made for each other when he suddenly announced his early retirement from politics to help his sick wife. Just one day later, a kidney was removed from the politician, which he eventually donated to his wife. Much more proof of love is really not possible!
