Before joining politics, George W. Bush was a wealthy businessman. His business ventures recorded huge success, one of which was in the oil and gas industry. He started Arbusto Energy in 1977 and as the chief executive and director, he was paid $75K a year while holding 1.1 million shares of the company. Another profitable investment was the purchase of the Texas Rangers, a baseball team. When George finally sold his company shares in 1998, he made about $14 million.
However, the business mogul turned politician also earned pretty handsomely from politics making him worth $40 million. He was initially governor of Texas before serving as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009.
