Secrets of the Crown: Explore Mind-Boggling Royal Conspiracy Theories!

The Truth Behind the Gossip

It’s impossible to say that William II was deliberately killed by his younger brother, Henry, as this claim lacks concrete evidence and is largely dismissed by historians. William II’s death during the hunting expedition in the New Forest in 1100 was officially recorded as a tragic accident. The king was struck by an arrow shot by one of the party members, not necessarily with any intent to harm.

While Henry did indeed become king shortly after his brother’s death, the quick succession was also a matter of political expediency and the absence of other direct heirs. Finally, historical accounts suggest that such hunting accidents were not uncommon.
